Fox have released an extended X Factor preview this week featuring auditio footage, ahead of the talent show’s premiere next Wednesday.

The promotional clip starts with the announcement of Simon Cowell leaving American Idol, and sees the music-mogul describe his new show as “a gamble” with a $5 million prize – the largest in television history.

The remaining judges are then introduced, with Paula Abdul saying she looks forward to reuniting with her “partner in crime”.

Nicole Scherzinger describes how she started out on a similar show and has lived the whole process, and L.A. Reid why he quit his position as chairman of Island Def Jam – “to take a shot at discovering the next generation of stars”.

We are then treated to various footage from the auditions, including 13-year-old Rachel and 42-year-old Stacey who both impress the judges, as well as the bad and the ugly.

Simon is also seen telling the production team: “I’m telling you now, I am hating this. It’s got to go. It’s just not working.” He has since revealed that this was footage from Bootcamp where an overnight task had not worked out to plan.
