Reports suggest that plans for Mariah Carey to have a role on The X Factor USA have been finalised.

Carey was initally wanted for a judge, but this was not possible due to the singer’s pregnancy earlier this year. Despite this, Simon Cowell had still expressed his wish for her to play some part in the show.

A report in People has claimed she will assist Simon during the judges’ houses stage of the competition.

A source said: “Mariah is definitely confirmed to be a part of The X Factor. She is confirmed to tape something with Simon Cowell at the judges’ homes.

“Each of the judges will tape something with mentors they have selected and Simon has selected Mariah to do that with him. The judges mentor the talent they pick and she will be working with them.”

Mariah’s husband, Nick Cannon has since backed-up the reports, telling Extra: “Now it’s official. I still don’t know what she’s doing, but she’s doing something! She’s ready and excited!”

The X Factor premieres in America on Wednesday, September 21. The judges’ houses round is scheduled to be aired on October 12, 13 and 18.
