Mike Darnell, chief executive of reality TV at Fox, has claimed he has no regrets in replacing Cheryl Cole with Nicole Scherzinger on The X Factor USA.
Cole was announced as a judge for The X Factor’s launch in America back in May,and at the time Darnell claimed Cheryl had “the whole X Factor package”.
On Wednesday night’s series premiere, host Steve Jones simply announced that “a new city brings a big change – a new X Factor judge”, and that Nicole would be replacing Cheryl on the panel.
The way the situation was handled was described by some viewers as “awkward” on Twitter, who said there did not appear to be anything wrong with Cherly’s work.
Darnell has told Deadline: “It’s easy to love the one that’s gone, but Nicole is great too. Both are stunning but also very different.”
“I have no regrets, but I do love Cheryl,” he added.

I do worry about the number of under 16s getting through to the next round. It’s making the 18s look like the over 25s and the over 25s needing zimmer frame and a warm blanket..
Cheryl looked uncomfortable on the panel, she never spoke to LA Reid and moved next to Simon. She was out of her comfort zone and Nicole was the better choice.
Nicole isn’t that good, she has no personality, fun or she just comes across snotty and she encourages Abdul to be a of an ass too a side which never really came out before.
The British one is a serious bit of fresh air.
Well said! Nicole and Paula are like ‘the ugly sisters’(without being ugly!) Nicole is soo self promoting it makes my skin crawl!

Nicole’s ambition and self promotion is nauseous! Paula is just crazy! The panel needs Cheryl, lets hope Simon persuades her to come back for the live finals

Paula and Nicole are too busy showing off to have the decency to bother paying attention to the auditions. I dislike them both as judges and doubt either will be a good mentor.
