Five acts were sent home by the judges in the first ever X Factor USA live show last night, as a whopping seventeen finalists become twelve.
At the Judges’ Houses, each judge picked four acts to mentor during the live shows, except Simon Cowell who couldn’t reduce the top 5 in his category any further.
The public were not allowed to vote in the X Factor USA’s first live show. Instead each judge had to cut their number of acts to three each.
A similar twist recently took place on the first live show of the current UK series, and received a mixed reception from fans.
You can see all 17 performances here, and watch each judge make their decisions below.
Next week, normal service will be resumed and the final 12 will sing for before facing the public vote. The 2 acts with the lowest votes will sing again, and the judges will then choose one of these to go home.

Keep it central!

It’s nice of Fox to allow embedding of their X Factor videos (take note X Factor UK)
Is there going to be a theme every week (like the UK version)
There is 1
Frankly I’ve given up on the UK. Simon’s nonsense aside, the quality of the sing is leagues above the UK. Particularly the overs and the groups put the UK to shame.
Given some truely bad song selections pretty much the right ones got through. That said, LA’s facination Astro and Simon’s with utterly annoying Rachel still baffles.
Still Chris, Leroy, Josh and Drew are excellent.
@ bubba….I agree with you in total thought Melanie Amaro too is awesome but she needs to get out of her comfort zone and try a different genre…hope u agree…
I think Melanie Amaro will win the X factor, that´s for sure!
