X Factor 2011 launch date confirmed

ITV have confirmed that The X Factor will return to our screens on Saturday 20th August.

Series 8 of the hit talent search, hosted by Dermot O’Leary, will kick off with a 75-minute episode at 7:30pm.

The show will be the first time we get to see the brand new judging line-up in action as Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos, Kelly Rowland and Louis Walsh take their seats on the panel.

Auditions this year were held in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow and Cardiff, and a press release from ITV read:

“This year’s contestants give the judges more action and entertainment than ever before as Gary is forced to take to the stage to eject rejects, Kelly mops up tears, Tulisa rows with an angry contestant and Louis finds an Irish singer he doesn’t like.”

Viewers are also promised extra audition shows, the biggest bootcamp ever and fly-on-the-wall action as the contestants are filmed living together for the first time.

It is also confirmed that the categories will remain the same – Boys (16-24), Girls (16-24), Over 25s and Groups.

Caroline Flack and 2009 runner-up Olly Murs will host The Xtra Factor on ITV2. Press shots of the judges were released last Friday, and were soon followed by the first trailer for the new series.

The over 25 being back thing is a rumour is from Daily Mail.

Once again officially the cut off is still 28s.

Hmm that’s interesting… I’ve checked the official press release from ITV which definitely states Over 25s, so it’s not just a rumour from the Daily Mail!
We’ll have to wait and see, but nothing may be definite yet as last year they only changed it from Over 25s to 28s after Bootcamp, which is still to take place.
