X Factor 2010 winner Matt Cardle has announced his debut album to be released later this year, as well as details of the first single to be taken from the album.
Cardle’s X Factor winner’s single ‘When We Collide’ claimed last year’s Christmas number one, and remained at the top of the charts for three weeks.
The 28-year-old has taken on a rock sound, and will release his album ‘Letters‘ on October 17, with several of the tracks having been previewed by The Sun.
The title track ‘Letters’ is similiar to Coldplay’s ‘Fix You’, ‘Starlight’ is a “depressing happy song about the insignificance of everything”, and the lyrics to ‘Amazing’ are about “finding someone when you’ve got no one”.
Whereas these were all co-written by Matt, his debut single ‘Run For Your Life’ was penned by Take That star and new X Factor judge Gary Barlow.
The track is said to be “reminiscent of Snow Patrol’s biggest hits” with guitar riffs and string sections. Matt told The Sun: “We had 99% of the album finished then the track came through from Gary. I’d been trying to write a song like that for a long, long time, probably five or six years.
“As soon as I heard it I just felt the song was mine. Lyrically it’s about not being good enough for the person you’re with. I know exactly what that’s like. I was nearly in tears recording the vocals. I’m proud that I’ve written a lot of the album but Gary is a genius as a writer – I couldn’t pass it up.”
Barlow commented: “I thought the song would be perfect for Matt and it really suits his vocals. He’s a lovely chap and I thought he was great on the show, a real talent.”
Are you looking forward to hearing Matt’s new material when it is released?
Keep it central!
